Patient and Family sessions, Fourth BHD Symposium

More information is now available on the Patient and Family sessions at the Fourth BHD Symposium. The sessions will take place on the 29th March, but patients and families are very welcome to stay for all the scientific sessions as well. Additionally, there will be a special dinner on the evening of the 29th to which all are invited.

Abstract submission is also open for the symposium and the deadline for abstracts is the 15^th February 2012. Submit an abstract here.

BHD Literature Database Updated

Lim et al 2011 is the newest entry in the BHD Literature Database. The authors continued to build on their previous works stuyding MAP01, also known as FNIP2 or FNIPL. Here the authors presented their results indicating that MAP01, in conjunction with FLCN, appears to regulate the activation of AMPK in O(6)-methylguanine-induced apoptosis.

Abstract submission for the Fourth BHD Symposium is now open. The Symposium will be held in Cincinnati, USA from 28^th-30^th March 2012. Abstracts can be submitted here and more information, including instructions for abstract submission, can be found here. The deadline for abstract submission is the 15^th February 2012.

BHD Literature Database Updated

The BHD Literature Database has been updated with the report by Nagashima et al. The authors identified a novel Folliculin germline mutation in a mother and daughter. The women had both had renal neoplasms surgically removed.

BHD Literature Database Updated

The BHD Literature Database has been updated with several new papers.

Park et al. reported on a 43-year-old man who presented with trichodiscomas and was found to carry a FLCN mutation. The case study by Shin et al. discussed a 54 year-old man presenting with fibrofolliculomas and a history of spontaneous pneumothorax, who was also found to be positive for FLCN mutation.

Truchuelo et al. published their results on treating fibrofolliculomas with a CO2 laser in two patients.

Houweling et al. presented a large-scale analysis of 115 BHD patients from 35 families to determine the respective risk of renal cancer and spontaneous pneumothorax as well as to assess renal tumour histologies in BHD.

BHD Literature Database Updated

The BHD Literature Database has been updated with a new study by Sattler et al. The authors discuss the case report of a 48-year old male with late onset of fibrofolliculomas, in the fifth decade of life, and identified to carry mutation p.W260X. This mutation has been previously described in a Swiss family that manifested only the lung symptoms of BHD.
